Internships are available in a variety of environments. Past students have worked at Great West Casualty Insurance, a national security agency, MidAmerican Energy, or as tutors.

Travel

You will have the opportunity to travel regionally, nationally, and even internationally for professional conferences, industry field trips, or May Term courses. Travel grants and special scholarship eligibility may be available.

Research & Active Learning

Independent studies and research opportunities are available depending on your unique interests and needs. Work with faculty to determine your best course of action. Past topics have included numerical analysis, combinatorics, and number theory.

PLAN OF STUDY

REQUIRED

An introduction to differential and integral calculus. Topics include functions, limits, continuity, derivatives, and integrals-with applications throughout the course.

REQUIRED

This course provides a transition to upper-level mathematics courses. Topics include elements from discrete math, number theory, set theory, proof techniques, and mathematical logic.

REQUIRED

Senior Capstone Experience. This writing-intensive course involves assigned readings, in-class discussions, papers, and presentations on various topics in or related to mathematical sciences, such as the history and philosophy of mathematical sciences, and current ethical and social issues involving mathematics in society.

ELECTIVE

An algebra-based survey of mechanics and thermodynamics, featuring the description of motion, Newton’s laws of motion and gravity, energy and momentum, rotational motion, work and heat, and the laws of thermodynamics.
