Internships are similar to short-term jobs that are related to your academic and career interests. They typically last three to six months and give you an opportunity to get work experience and academic credit at the same time. Students gain knowledge and experience in their field of interest, and they network with potential employers. Many employers offer jobs to individuals who have completed an internship with them. Internships also are great resume builders.
How Do You Acquire an Internship
There are many ways to get an internship, especially in a city as large as Sioux City. Your academic advisor is a great place to start, and the Career Services counselor is also available. Other options are the alumni connections in your area of interest. You can take the initiative yourself to contact companies and ask if they have internship programs. In addition to the many internship opportunities in Sioux City, past Morningside students have interned at national locations.
