Whether you're aspiring to start your own business or aiming to bring entrepreneurial thinking into an existing organization, the Entrepreneurial Studies Minor provides a solid foundation to foster creativity and drive growth in a rapidly changing global market. The Entrepreneurial Studies Minor is designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to launch and manage successful business ventures. This interdisciplinary program offers a blend of theoretical and practical learning experiences, focusing on innovation, business planning, and strategic execution.

Why Study Entrepreneurial Studies?

Morningside University’s Entrepreneurial Studies minor prepares students to launch businesses, lead innovation, and solve complex problems in startups, nonprofits, and established organizations. Students develop entrepreneurial thinking through experiential learning, business planning, mentorship, and connections with regional business leaders.

Internships

There is a high demand for interns from the Siouxland region and beyond. Internships put you in a professional setting where you work side-by-side with experienced professionals in management, marketing, finance, human resource management, social media marketing, banking, and other desired fields.

Clubs and Organizations

Morningside offers abundant opportunities to get involved including, Accounting Club, Business Honors, Collegiate Entrepreneur Organization (CEO), Morningside Investment Group, and Morningside Student Advertising Agency (MSAA).

REQUIRED

Students will explore entrepreneurial traits, business forms, ethics, and opportunity identification. They’ll grasp feasibility analysis, goal-setting, vision, mission, financial concepts, market segmentation, and value propositions. By the course’s end, students will analyze opportunities, assess resources, and deliver a compelling elevator pitch.

REQUIRED

This course will provide students rigorous training in business plan writing and presentation skills needed to start an entrepreneurial venture. Students will learn and produce an industry and market analysis, a competitive analysis, financial projections and other items required to conceptualize, develop, and write a business plan.

REQUIRED

Students will study business activities related to the product, price, promotion, and distribution of goods and services to create, deliver, capture, and communicate value to the customer. Students will carry out individual marketing research project utilizing primary and secondary sources and present an interactive final group industry report.

ELECTIVE

Students in this course will study the basic functions of sales and customer relationship management (CRM). Throughout the course a strategic perspective will be used to develop an analytical understanding of the concepts, tools and techniques related to sales and CRM.
