Use Your Bachelor’s Degree to Begin a Teaching Career! Morningside University offers programs that allow you to leverage your existing bachelor’s degree to begin a teaching career.

INITIAL LICENSURE PROGRAMS
Elementary Education
(Initial License)
47 Credits
This program prepares new elementary education teachers. Use your existing bachelor’s degree in any field to become an elementary teacher in grades K-6
Secondary Education (Teacher Intern)
35 Credits
Morningside’s Teacher Intern Program is one of the only programs in the state that allows you to use your existing bachelor’s degree to become a teacher in an Iowa middle or high school in less than two years.
Special Education
(Teacher Intern)
42 Credits
This program leads to an initial teaching license for Special Education, Instructional Strategist II, Behavior Disorder and Learning Disabilities, grades K-12 in the state of Iowa.
PROGRAM DETAILS
- $685/credit
- There is a $150 non-refundable clinical course fee (required for some endorsement programs) and a $150 graduation fee (a one-time fee for degree programs) and a one-time Graduate Orientation Course fee of $230.
- A bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.
- A minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale is required for admission. If an applicant does not have a 2.75 cumulative GPA, the last 60 hours of coursework completed will be considered under the same requirements.
- Complete an application to our program.
- We accept official electronic transcripts emailed to soe@morningside.edu directly from either an institution, (i.e., Registrar’s Office), or from an established third-party provider.
- Submission of a resume and three references.
- MAT: Secondary Education and Elementary Education applicants should have at least 75% of the endorsement content completed for admission.
- Successful applicants will also complete an interview with the faculty from the Sharon Walker School of Education.
Teach Grants
Students seeking a master’s degree in education may be eligible for a federal TEACH grant.
Other Aid
Students enrolled in at least five (5) credit hours per term may be eligible for the following:
Federal Graduate/Professional PLUS Loans
Federal low-interest subsidized and unsubsidized loans
