Dakota Dunes Country Club
The Doug Smith Memorial Golf Classic was founded to honor the life and legacy of a man who was much more than just a legendary Sioux City and USD athlete. Doug was a businessman, a youth coach, and a local golf phenom who excelled despite the challenges of Type 1 diabetes and cancer.
He was married to Pam Miller-Smith a 1979 graduate of Morningside. He and Pam rarely missed a Morningside athletic event or musical performance.
This annual event fulfills one of Doug’s final requests: to find a way to give back to the university communities that meant the most to him. This event was organized in Doug’s name in order to support football scholarships for local and regional players @ Morningside & USD.
Since our inception we have been able to send over $225,000 to the USD Coyotes and Morningside University. Participants have the power to choose exactly where their donation goes. Whether your heart is with USD or Morningside, your support helps us grow this event into something bigger and better for the long run.
