Morningside University is located in the heart of Sioux City, Iowa. Situated on the Missouri River and bordering Nebraska and South Dakota, Sioux City is Iowa’s fourth-largest city and a regional hub for business, culture, and entertainment.

It’s also home to a wealth of businesses and industries that provide internships and externships for our students and employ our graduates. Programs like Agricultural & Food StudiesEducation, and Nursing all supply talent critical to keeping Siouxland a great place to be while also helping our graduates launch their careers.

Visit Morningside and see why we love our hometown.

Explore Sioux City

As Iowa’s fourth largest city, Sioux City offers most of the amenities you would find in a larger metropolitan area, but without the hassles of crazy traffic, expensive parking, and a high cost of living. Sioux City is a great example of a place where city life meets small town comforts, and we think you will find it a great place to call home.

Sioux City is home to more than 100 national retailers and locally-owned stores, including Target, Walmart, Old Navy, Five Below, Fleet Farm, American Eagle, and Scheels.

On-campus dining is pretty great, but are also plenty of options if you are ready to change it up. National chain restaurants like Buffalo Wild Wings, Texas Roadhouse, Olive Garden, Chipotle, and more are just minutes from campus. Plus, there is plenty of great, Insta-worthy local fare, too, like Bob Roe’s, Jim’s Burger, and perennial student favorite La Juanita’s (better known by most as La Jua’s). During warmer weather months, you can also find some outstanding local food trucks, including a few that park adjacent to campus.

Sioux City is home to a Tier 1 junior ice hockey team, the Sioux City Musketeers; a professional baseball team, the Sioux City Explorers; and a professional indoor football team, the Sioux City Bandits. If you want to get active, you’ll also find everything from fitness centers, ice skating rinks, frisbee golf, rec leagues, snow tubing, and more.

From Grammy award-winners to Tony award-winners, Sioux City keeps upping its entertainment game. The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino brings national entertainment acts year-round, including an outdoor concert series that brought Post Malone, Ke$ha, and Pitbull to name a few. The Orpheum Theatre is home to the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and hosts off-Broadway productions, music acts, and other performers. And the Tyson Events Center also hosts concerts ranging from Tim McGraw to Florida Georgia Line, as well as other entertainment and sporting events.

If fresh air and sunshine are your thing, Sioux City has no shortage of outdoor options. Stone State Park, Dorothy Pecaut Nature Preserve, Bacon Creek Park, Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve, and the Loess Hills are all great places to explore. Plus, Sioux City’s Cone Park was named the #1 attraction in Iowa in 2018.
