Morningside College’s men’s and women’s teams each found themselves among the top 15 of the highly-touted MidStates Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Newman College Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20 and 21.

WICHITA, KS. – Morningside College’s men’s and women’s teams each found themselves among the top 15 of the highly-touted MidStates Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Newman College Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20 and 21.

Head coach Steve Gonshorowski’s women placed 15thin the 27-team field averaging a 165 over 50 games. Sophomore Brooke Boomgars (Sioux City, Iowa) was the top individual placewinner, coming in at No. 39, while sophomore Mari Pizzini (Helena, Mt.) and junior Emma Sonier (Sioux City, Iowa) registered the best averages at 175 and 170. 

The Mustang men’s team finished 14thout of 31 programs with a 9021 total which averaged out to 180 over 50 games. Junior Matt Hystad (LeMars, Iowa) and senior Tanner Hansel (Sioux City, Iowa) were the individual leaders, as Hystad rolled a 1143 for 35thand Hansel knocked down 1130 pins for a 40thplace effort.

MC is back in action Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 2 and 3, at the Jayhawk Classic. The men will compete in Lawrence and the women’s tournament is set for Topeka.
