Morningside wrestlers Steven Garcia, Keegan Hessler and Devin Phaly qualified for the 2018 NAIA Wrestling National Championships slated for March 2 and 3 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Garcia, a senior from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, qualified in the 149 lb. division based on a second place finish at last Saturday’s Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Wrestling Championships in Hastings, Neb. Hessler, a junior from Scottsbluff, Neb., and Phaly, a junior from Sergeant Bluff, are 125 lb. qualifiers after they finished second and third, respectively, at the GPAC Championships.

Garcia, a two-time NAIA All-American, has a 23-4 record with five falls. He had a 16-match winning streak snapped when he lost a 2-1 decision against Richard Pocock of Hastings College in the 149 lb. title bout at the GPAC Championships.

Hessler, who earned NAIA All-America honors with a sixth place finish in the 125 lb. division at last year’s NAIA National Championships, has an 11-5 record with six falls, while Phaly has a 23-15 record with seven falls.
