Women’s swimming nabs three event victories in win over College of Saint Mary.

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The 2018-19 season started off on a high note for Morningside College’s women’s squad Friday, Oct. 12.

Beginning an exciting weekend of athletic competition to help highlight Homecoming 2018 around campus, head coach Bryan Farris’ team toppled College of Saint Mary 109-90 at the Mustangs’ home venue inside the Hindman-Hobbs Center.

Three event victories aided the dual meet victory. Junior Grace Nordquist (Panora, Iowa) led a one-two finish in the 1000-yard freestyle. Her time of 12:08.14 won the race with sophomore teammate Maureen Voller (Omaha, Neb.) taking second in 12:50.93. A pair of underclasswomen, freshman Samantha Masid (Plattsmouth, Neb.) and sophomore Lauryn Baehr (Mesa, Ariz.), added first-place marks in the 100-yard freestyle (Masid – 1:01.39) and 100-yard backstroke (Baehr – 1:07.46). Both of their event titles were part of first through third place sweeps, as senior Carly Johnson (Kansas City, Ks.,) was second (1:02.32) and junior Jaymie Huff (Castle Rock, Colo.) took third (1:04.88) in the freestyle, and senior Aggie Mullen (Omaha, Neb.) wound up second (1:08.11) and junior Deb Cvrk (Sioux City, Iowa) ended third (1:08.83) in the backstroke.

Farris’ team is back in action Friday, Oct. 26, for a quadrangular meet at CSM’s Lied Fitness Center Pool.
