Morningside College has become a member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
AASHE provides specialized resources, professional development and a network of peer support to member schools to help them meet their sustainability goals. Based in Denver, Colo., the association has more than 1,000 member colleges and universities and associate members. Fifteen colleges in Iowa are members.
Patrick Blaine, director of sustainability at Morningside, said, “This membership provides our students, faculty and staff with more opportunities to learn about the sustainability successes at schools all over the country and to participate in ongoing conversations surrounding sustainability issues.”
Morningside has a committee on environmental sustainability that is made up of student, staff and faculty representatives. The committee coordinates recycling on campus, initiates educational and promotional projects to preserve and enhance the environment, and encourages awareness and participation of the campus community regarding positive environmental change.
