Cassie Stanek posted the school-record 51st singles victory of her Morningside career in the Mustangs’ 9-0 rout of Mount Marty.

Cassie Stanek

Cassie Stanek, a senior from Sioux City, became the all-time career singles victory leader in Morningside College history during the Mustangs’ 9-0 victory against Mount Marty College in Saturday’s regular season finale in Sioux City.

Stanek routed the Lancers’ Laura Cattle 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 flight for the 51st singles victory of her Morningside career. Stanek, 51-9, had shared the Mustangs’ singles victory record with Megan Solberg, who compiled a 50-19 record from 2011-15. Stanek, who has a 16-5 record this season, accomplished the feat in three years after she played her freshman season at the University of Sioux Falls.

Ons Souissi

Aside from her singles win, Stanek combined with Ons Souissi for an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles to move closer to another Morningside record. Stanek has 98 combined singles and doubles victories during her Morningside career to move within two wins of the Mustangs’ record of 100 combined triumphs held by 2016 graduate Katie Hanson.

Morningside routed Mount Marty in all five singles flights. Souissi also dropped only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph against Rebecca Sadler in the second flight, while Natasha Hongsermeier, Kathryn Jones and Abby Fitzgerald all won by 6-0, 6-0 verdicts. The Lancers, who competed with only five players, forfeited the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles matches.

Hongsermeier and Fitzgerald blanked the Lancers 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Morningside finished the regular season with a 13-3 record, including a 5-2 mark in the Great Plains Athletic Conference for third place in the league standings. The Mustangs will compete in the GPAC Tennis Championships on May 5 and 6 in Fremont, Neb.
