Morningside College’s football program was recognized on the Great Plains Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, released Monday, Oct. 29, for Oct. 22-28.

Senior defensive back Xavier Spann (Lakeland, Fla.) was tabbed the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player of the Week. Spotlighting head coach Steve Ryan’s program being honored for the sixth time in nine weeks, Spann led a bedrock charge from the Maroon and White defensive unit during a 49-0 conference win over Concordia University of Nebraska Oct. 27. He and the Mustangs turned in the team’s third opposition shutout of the year while limiting the Bulldogs’ offense to just 26 yards of total offense. Spann registered a third straight game with at least one interception and also added six tackles of which one and a half were for losses and a pass break-up, as Mside upped its conference win string to 31 and regular season win roll to 27.
