Mustangs advance to GPAC softball title game
Morningside blanked Midland 1-0 to advance to the championship game of the GPAC Softball Championship tournament.
Jordan Johnson twirled a two-hit shutout to pitch Morningside to a 1-0 victory against Midland in Friday’s winner’s bracket final and into the title game of the GPAC Softball Championship tournament in Hastings, Neb.
The Mustangs, the GPAC regular season champion, will take a 29-11 record into Saturday’s championship game against Concordia. Morningside is the only unbeaten team left in the double elimination tourney. The Mustangs swept the Bulldogs 1-0 and 10-2 when they met during the regular season.
Johnson walked one batter and struck out 10 in her gem against Midland.
Daas and Neumann, the first two hitters in the Mustangs’ order, accounted for all four of the team’s hits against the Warriors’ Sammy Hislop, who walked one and struck out five. Daas had a double and single and Neumann had two singles.
Morningside scored the game’s only run in the second inning when McKenzie Anderson reached base on an error, was sacrificed to second by Elin Landgren, and came home on a double by Taylor Daas.
