Six Mustang gridders named to academic all-district team
Morningside played six players from its undefeated football team on the CoSIDA College Division Academic All-District 3 Team.
Morningside College placed six players from its undefeated (11-0) and third-ranked football team on the 2017 College Division All-Academic District 3 Football Team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Their names will go on the national ballot for selection of the 2017 College Division Academic All-America Football Team.
The Mustangs’ academic all-district selections are:
Bo Els, a sophomore special teams player from Lincoln, Neb., who has a 3.96 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with a major in general business.
Jacob Katzer, a sophomore linebacker from Wellsville, Kan., who has a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA with majors in biology and chemistry.
Seth Maitlen, a sophomore defensive lineman from Creston, Iowa, who has a 3.79 cumulative GPA with a major in social and behavioral science.
Andrew Metzger, a senior offensive lineman from Rock Rapids, Iowa, who has a 3.73 cumulative GPA with a major in applied agricultural and food studies.
Garrit Shanle, a junior offensive lineman from Columbus, Neb., who has a 3.73 cumulative GPA with a major in science teaching.
Spencer Wyant, a junior punter from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, who has a 3.61 cumulative GPA with a major in nursing.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District College Division Teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions. Athletes must be of at least sophomore academic status, be a starter or significant reserve, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher to be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
