Sioux City artist Shannon Sargent will have artwork on display at Morningside College Monday, Aug. 12, through Friday, Sept. 27, in the Eppley Art Gallery.

Sioux City artist Shannon Sargent will have artwork on display at Morningside College Monday, Aug. 12, through Friday, Sept. 27, in the Eppley Art Gallery, 3625 Garretson Ave.

The exhibit, “Striped Sounds,” is an interactive installation of mixed media including paintings, sculptures and found objects. There will be a reception for the artist from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, just outside the gallery.

After serving six years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a mountaineering instructor, Sargent earned a Bachelor of Science in art from Morningside College in 2000 and a Master of Fine Arts in painting from the University of South Dakota in 2002.

Sargent is now the exhibitions/collections coordinator at the Sioux City Art Center, where he maintains the permanent collection and installs exhibitions.  He also teaches sculpture classes and serves as gallery coordinator for Morningside College. He lives in Sioux City with his wife, Lisa, and their daughter, Shay. He produces and shows artwork throughout the region.

The Eppley Art Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
