Raul Rivera Rojas received second-team all-conference honors and was named the NAIA North Conference Co-Newcomer of the Year.

Raul Rivera Rojas, a 5-10 sophomore outside hitter from Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, was named to the 2015 All-NAIA North Conference Men’s Volleyball Second Team as selected by the league’s head coaches.

In addition to his second-team All-NAIA North Conference selection, Rivera Rojas was also named the NAIA North Conference Co-Newcomer of the Year along with Felipe Rosa of Grand View University.

Rivera Rojas was the Mustangs’ top attacker with a team-high 371 kills for an average of 3.71 kills per set. He was second on the team with 24 ace serves and 153 digs for an average of 1.53 digs per set.

Rivera Rojas produced a double figure kill total in 21 of the Mustangs’ 28 matches and had the team’s top individual kill performance of the season with 25 terminations to lead Morningside to a 3-1 triumph against Lindenwood University-Belleville on Jan. 23 at the Park University Invitational.

Rivera Rojas led the Mustangs with three kill/dig double doubles, including a 15-kill, 12-dig performance to help lead Morningside to a 3-2 victory against Graceland University in last Saturday’s first round of the NAIA North Conference Tournament in Canton, Mo.

Morningside completed its first season of varsity men’s volleyball competition with a record of 11-17.
