Patrick Bass, professor of history at Morningside College, will give a lecture on the historical background of impeachment at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Weikert Auditorium in Buhler Rohlfs Hall, 1701 Morningside Ave.

The lecture, “Historical Background to Impeachment: Presidential and Judicial Precedents” is free and open to public. It is sponsored by the Morningside College History Department and the Col. Bud Day Center for Civic Engagement.

“As calls for the impeachment of President Trump escalate in vehemence and frequency, even in bipartisan ways, understanding the challenges of impeachment becomes vital,” Bass said. “Because state-level impeachments operate differently, this overview lecture will concentrate exclusively on past impeachment proceedings in the federal Congress.”

Bass has taught at Morningside since 1992. He teaches European and American history and studies foreign relations. He has a doctorate from Claremont Graduate School in Claremont, Calif.

Morningside College opened the Col. Bud Day Center for Civic Engagement in 2015. The center focuses on activities related to civic awareness and citizenship on campus and in the Sioux City area. The center is affiliated with the Morningside College Department of Economics, Political Science and Sociology.
