Nikki Oberfoell was named the GPAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after she helped the Mustangs extend their winning streak to five matches.

Nikki Oberfoell, a 5-6 senior libero from Brighton, Colo., is the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 18-24.

Oberfoell averaged 5.38 digs per set to help lead the 24th-ranked Mustangs to a 3-2 victory against city rival Briar Cliff University, a 3-2 triumph against No. 15 Doane University and a 3-0 sweep of Concordia University.

Oberfoell had a season’s high 31 digs in the win against Briar Cliff and went for 27 digs to help lead Morningside to a come-from-behind victory against nationally ranked Doane after the Mustangs had lost the first two sets. She had 12 digs against Concordia to extend her streak to 13 consecutive double figure dig performances.

She is averaging a team-high 4.77 digs per set and tops the Mustangs with 17 ace serves.

Morningside will take a five-match winning streak and a 12-7 record into a 7:30 p.m. home match against Dakota Wesleyan University on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
