The Mustang women’s golf team won their own invitational for their second win in a row and their sixth tournament title of the 2016-17 season.

Morningside College’s women’s golf team won its second straight tournament and its sixth tournament title of the 2016-17 season when the Mustangs pocketed the team title at Wednesday’s Morningside Invitational at Whispering Creek Golf Club.

The Mustangs carded a team score of 334 for a seven-stroke victory margin over Northwestern College and Mount Marty College, who tied for second place at 341.

Morningside matched its home course record with the 334, tying a record that was first set on Sept 21, 2015.

Nathalie Sanchez, a junior from Bellevue, Neb., paced the Mustangs with an eight-over par 80. Sanchez, who finished fourth in the individual standings, had 10 pars on her scorecard en route to one of the top scores of her collegiate career.

Mikaela Livengood, a sophomore from Eagle Grove, Iowa, finished one shot behind Sanchez with an 81 for fifth place in the individual standings. Livengood’s round included eight pars and two birdies.

The Mustangs completed their record tying score with an 85 from Myla Brown, a sophomore from Sioux Falls, S.D., and an 88 from Alexandra Mankle, a sophomore from Milford, Iowa. Brown’s round included five pars and a birdie, while Mankle had six pars and an eagle on the 466-yard par five seventh hole.

Morningside will compete in the Northwestern/Dordt Invitational on April 21 and 22.
