Morningside College took the early lead in the 2015-16 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) women’s golf standings with a first place finish at GPAC Qualifier #1 held Wednesday at Two Rivers Golf Course in Sioux City.

The final GPAC team and individual standings will be determined by the combined scoring from the four GPAC Qualifier tournaments split evenly between the fall and spring seasons.

GPAC Qualifier #1 was the fourth tournament title of the fall season for the Mustangs’ Freshman Fab Five lineup. The Mustangs carded a 342 to top the 12-team GPAC field by a four-stroke margin over runner-up Mount Marty.

Myla Brown, a redshirt freshman from Sioux Falls, S.D., led the Mustangs with an 83 to put her in a tie for third place in the individual standings. Alexandra Mankle, a freshman from Milford, Iowa, and Cheyanne Becker, a freshman from Waukee, Iowa, were next with 85s to put them in a tie for ninth place in the individual standings. The Mustangs completed their team score with an 89 from Elizabeth Thies, a freshman from Green Ilse, Minn., which put her tied for 16th in the individual standings.

The Mustangs will compete in GPAC Qualifier #2 on Oct. 5 in Hastings, Neb.
