The Morningside Mustangs won 49-21 against the William Penn University Statesmen after a string of spectacular touchdowns by Mustang wide receivers Connor Niles, Reid Jurgensmeier, and Arnijae Ponder.

Niles, a senior, scored the day’s first touchdown two minutes into the game and, within ten minutes, followed it up with another. Stunningly, Sioux City native Trent Solsma passed both these touchdowns and three others through the course of the game. Thanks to the Mustangs’ incredible teamwork, Morningside finished the first quarter 21-7.

Another standout was sophomore running back Arnijae Ponder, who scored a picture-perfect touchdown in the second quarter. Despite the charging Statesmen on his tail, Ponder made the play look effortless, sailing into the end zone and wrapping up the second quarter at 28-14. The Mustangs furthered their lead in the third quarter for an astonishing 42-21. The Mustangs had a clear goal in mind to further the gap in the score when the game finished with a 49-21 final score.

The Mustangs, who went undefeated last year 8-0 in their conference, have clearly kicked off the year with a stellar start. Let’s see if this momentum carries them into another win against Truman State on Saturday, September 8that 1:00 PM in Kirksville, Missouri.
