Northwestern Ohio made the Mustangs their 11th straight shutout victim in the opening round of the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship.

Second-ranked Northwestern Ohio extended its impressive streak of shutouts when it blanked Morningside 3-0 in Saturday’s NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship First Round Game in Lima, Ohio.

The Racers, last year’s NAIA national runner-up, made the Mustangs their 11th straight shutout victim. Northwestern Ohio, which leads the nation with 15 shutouts, extended its winning streak to 14 games to advance to the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship second round in Orange Beach, Ala. The opening round victory improved the Racers’ record to 18-2-2.

Morningside, which made the NAIA national tournament for the first time since 2007, finished with a record of 15-6-1.

Northwestern Ohio outshot the Mustangs by a 37-3 margin. Mustang goal keeper Niccole McGuire came up with 13 saves to limit the Racers’ scoring.

The Racers opened a 2-0 lead by the intermission on goals by Camilla Andersen and Laura Blanchard and added a third goal when Klara Cahynova scored in the second half.
