Mustangs sweep weekly GPAC baseball awards

Morningside’s Joe Genoways is the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Baseball Player of the Week and Lucas Henning is the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for March 13-19.
Genoways, a junior first baseman from Fort Calhoun, Neb., collected nine hits in 15 at-bats for a .600 batting average with six doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs to lead the Mustangs to a four-game sweep of a weekend series against the University of Winnipeg. Genoways had his biggest game of the series in Sunday’s finale when he went four-for-five with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs in the Mustangs’ 10-0 triumph.
Henning, a senior pitcher from Worthington, Minn., pitched a no-hitter with a career-high 13 strikeouts to lead the Mustangs to a 5-0 victory against Winnipeg in the nightcap of last Saturday’s doubleheader.
Morningside has won five games in a row to raise its record to 15-9 heading into this Saturday’s GPAC opener with a doubleheader against Doane University in Crete, Neb.
