Morningside finished second in the GPAC Fall Qualifier women’s golf tournament held Oct. 9 and 10 at The Bluffs in Vermillion, S.D.

Defending GPAC champion Briar Cliff carded a two-day total of 640 to finish six strokes in front of the Mustangs. Morningside, which trailed the Chargers by 13 strokes after an opening round 330, had the best score in the field with a 316 in Tuesday’s final round to close within six strokes. The Mustangs finished 46 strokes in front of Northwestern, which was a distant third with a 692.

The team and individual champion from the combined scoring in the GPAC Fall and Spring Qualifier tournaments will represent the conference at the 2018 NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship slated for May 22-25 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

The GPAC Spring Qualifier will be held April 9 and 10 at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus, Neb.

Briar Cliff’s Arianna Presilla was the individual leader at the GPAC Fall Qualifier with opening and closing rounds of 77 for a 154.

Morningside’s Maria Zorrilla and Samantha Knight were tied for second place three strokes back with 157s. Zorrilla carded scores of 78 and 79, while Knight had rounds of 80 and 77.

Mikaela Livengood finished eighth with scores of 89 and 78 for a 167 and Myla Brown finished 10th with rounds of 83 and 85 for a 168. Livengood’s second round 78 was her top score of the fall season.

The GPAC Fall Qualifier was the Mustangs’ final event of the fall season.
