Mustangs place two on academic all-district team
Sebastian Schoon and Joao Soares were named to the Academic All-District 3 Men’s Soccer Team.
Sebastian Schoon and Joao Soares were named to the 2017 College Division All-Academic District 3 Men’s Soccer Team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Their names will go on the national ballot for selection of the College Division Academic All-America Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams.
Schoon, a junior midfielder from Bielefeld, Germany, has a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with a major in business administration. He scored two goals and three assists for seven points this season. Schoon scored the game winning goal in the Mustangs’ 4-0 victory against the University of Jamestown.
Soares, a senior forward from Campinas, Brazil, has a 3.49 cumulative GPA with a major in business administration. He was the Mustangs’ leading scorer this season with nine goals and seven assists for 25 points and accounted for the game winning goal in Morningside’s 3-2 triumph against Johnson & Wales University. Soares finished his career as the fourth leading scorer in Morningside history with 81 career points and is third in the Mustangs’ record book with 31 career goals.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District College Division Teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions. Athletes must be of at least sophomore academic status, be a starter or significant reserve, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher to be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
