Mustangs place two on Academic All-America Football Team
Austin Anfinson and Chad Bertagni are repeat selections on the College Division Academic All-America Football Team.
Austin Anfinson and Chad Bertagni were named to the 2016 College Division Academic All-America Football Team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Anfinson and Bertagni are two of six players on the team who were named Academic All-Americans for the second year in a row.
Anfinson, a senior offensive lineman from Hinton, Iowa, has a 3.87 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with majors in biology and chemistry.
Bertagni, a senior offensive lineman from Omaha, Neb., has a 3.96 cumulative GPA with majors in biology and chemistry.
Anfinson and Bertagni were both starters on an explosive Morningside offensive unit that averaged 51.1 points and 578.4 yards total offense per game. The Mustangs finished the season with a 10-2 record, including a perfect 8-0 record in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) en route to their sixth consecutive GPAC title, and made their 13th consecutive post-season appearance in the NAIA Championship Series, where they have advanced to at least the quarterfinals 11 times in the last 13 years.
Athletes must be of at least sophomore academic status, be a starter or significant reserve, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher to be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
