Morningside placed three student-athletes on the Google Cloud College Division Academic All-District 3 Men’s Track/Cross Country Team.

James Farnan

James Farnan, Jacob Green and Jason Kenny were named to the 2018 Google Cloud College Division Academic All-District 3 Men’s Track/Cross Country Team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

As all-district selections, their names will go on the national ballot for selection of the 2018 Google Cloud College Division Academic All-America Men’s Track/Cross Country Team.

Farnan, a senior sprinter from Bellevue, Neb., has a 3.97 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with majors in political science and history. Farnan helped lead the Mustangs to a fourth place finish in the 400-meter relay at the 2018 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships and to fifth place finishes in the 1600-meter relay at the 2018 GPAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

Jacob Green

Green, a senior middle distance runner from Sioux Falls, S.D., has a 3.90 cumulative GPA with majors in biology and chemistry. Green helped lead the Mustangs to a fifth place finish in the 3200-meter relay at the 2018 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships to finish his career as a five-time All-American in relay events. He was a two-time NAIA Indoor All-American in individual events with a fifth place finish in the 800-meters at the 2018 NAIA Indoor National Championships and a seventh place finish in the 1000-meters at the 2017 NAIA Indoor National Championships.

Kenny, a senior distance runner from Schaller, Iowa, has a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA with a major in applied agricultural & food studies. Kenny earned All-America honors at the 2018 NAIA Outdoor National Championships when he helped lead the Mustangs to a fifth place finish in the 3200-meter relay. Kenny earned All-GPAC honors in cross country and was a two-time NAIA Indoor All-American in the 1000-meters with a fourth place finish at the 2018 NAIA Indoor National Championships and an eighth place finish in 2017.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division Teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.  Athletes must be of at least sophomore academic status, be a starter or significant reserve, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher to be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Morningside produced 69 Academic All-Americans between 2010 and 2017 for the fifth highest total in the nation among all divisions of intercollegiate athletics and the Mustangs’ all-time total of 83 Academic All-Americans is the highest figure for any school in the NAIA.
