Morningside’s women’s golf team won by a convincing 27-stroke margin at the GPAC Fall Qualifier tournament held Oct. 3 at Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Tuesday’s scheduled second round was washed out by rain. The GPAC is formulating a plan to make up the 18 holes in the spring.
The Mustangs dominated the tournament with four of the top five individual scores in the field on their way to a team score of 320 to finish five strokes shy of a school record. The victory was the Mustangs’ fourth tournament title in a row.
Mount Marty finished 27 strokes behind with a 347 to take second place. Eight-time defending champion Dakota Wesleyan is 98 strokes back with a 398 in 10th place.
Morningside freshman Anjana Cordes fired a five-over par 77 to share the individual lead with Logan Wagner of Mount Marty.
The Mustangs’ Mikaela Livengood, Myla Brown, and Alexandra Mankle shot scores of 80, 81, and 82 to claim places three through five in the individual standings.
The results from the combined scoring at the GPAC Fall and Spring Golf Qualifiers will determine the 2016-17 GPAC team and individual champions.
