Morningside’s men’s soccer team faced off in a GPAC match against Concordia University on Sept. 26.  The Mustangs came out on top, 2-1, thanks in part to a solid defensive effort put forth by the team in the closing minutes of the game.

Morningside was able to put together a run in minute 29 of the match when sophomore Austin Lingle got a ball from freshman Moritz Lusch and buried it in the net for the first score of the game.

Six minutes of play later, Lingle found the net again for Morningside’s second goal, with assists from Julius Fassbinder and Okan Goegle.  Concordia would answer before the half expired, taking a 2-1 Morningside lead into halftime.

Neither team was able to string together a run that would find its way past the opposing keeper during the second half, though Concordia did manage to muster some energy late in the game that found the Mustangs fighting to interrupt their passes.

Morningside had 12 shots in the game and three assists.  Lingle had three shots, two for goals, and Goegle added five more.  Senior goalkeeper Tim Erdmann had six saves in the match.

Morningside is back in action on the road on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 3 p.m. at cross-town rival Briar Cliff.
