Morningside was picked first in the 2017 GPAC Softball Coaches’ Preseason Poll.
The Mustangs received 99 points and nine of the 11 first place votes to top the preseason poll by a 12-point margin over Doane, which received the other two first place votes.
Morningside, ranked ninth nationally in the NAIA Softball Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll, returns nine starters and the top winner from the pitching staff from last year’s team that compiled a 47-10 record to set a school record for victories en route to it’s first-ever appearance in the NAIA Softball World Series. The Mustangs won Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) regular season and post-season tournament championships and punched their NAIA Softball World Series ticket by winning the Morningside Bracket of the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round.
