Morningside finished sixth at GPAC Men’s Golf Qualifier #2 held Monday at Firethorn Country Club in Lincoln, Neb.

The Mustangs carded a team score of 333 in the cold, windy, and wet conditions to finish four strokes out of fifth place behind Midland University.

Morningside, which finished fifth in GPAC Qualifier #1 earlier this fall, dropped a spot to sixth place in the combined team scoring at the halfway point of the conference season. The Mustangs’ two-tourney total of 640 left put them six strokes out of fifth place behind Hastings College. GPAC Qualifiers #3 and #4 will be played during the spring season.

Matt Young led the Mustangs’ at GPAC Qualifier #2 with a seven-over par 78 for the fifth lowest score in the field. Young was the Mustangs’ only player to break 80 on a day when all but 10 players in the 55-golfer field finished at 80 or higher.

Matt Pitts had the Mustangs’ second lowest score with an 81. The Mustangs competed their scoring with an 85 from Keagan Bak and an 89 from Cole Schwarz.

Young leads the Mustangs in the combined two-tournament scoring with a 157 for seventh place in the individual standings.

The Mustangs will wrap up their fall season at the Ashford University Invitational to be held Oct. 21 and 22 at Kohler, Wis.
