Ashton Schweers, a 5-10 outside hitter from Wayne, Neb., will enroll at Morningside College next fall and compete for the Mustangs’ women’s volleyball team announced Morningside head coach Sara Horn.

Schweers is a senior at Wayne High School, where she earned honorable mention Class C-1 all-state honors from the Omaha World-Herald and the Lincoln Journal-Star this past season. Schweers helped lead Wayne to a 25-7 record and a state tournament appearance. Aside from her all-state recognition, Schweers was named to the Mid-State All-Conference team, the Norfolk Daily News Elite Eight team, and received Wayne’s Most Valuable Player award.

She was the big hitter in Wayne’s attack with a team-high 305 kills, an average of 3.43 kills per game, and a .285 hitting percentage. Schweers also had 366 digs for an average of 4.11 per game and completed 234 of 247 serve attempts for 94.7 percent with 19 aces.

Schweers had 16 double figure kill performances and 17 double figure dig efforts. She had season’s highs of 26 kills against Norfolk Catholic and 28 digs in matches against Lutheran Northeast and Crofton.
