Mustang head baseball coach Brian Drent announced that outfielder Levi Davidson will join the Mustangs for the 2017-18 season.

Levi Davidson, an outfielder from Dakota City, Neb., will enroll at Morningside College next fall and compete for the Mustangs’ baseball team announced Morningside head baseball coach Brian Drent.

Davidson collected 50 hits in 141 at-bats for a .355 batting average while playing Legion baseball this past summer. Davidson, who hit from the leadoff position in his team’s batting order, had 11 doubles, three triples, 15 RBIs, 24 base on balls, eight stolen bases, and 45 runs scored.

He hit .317 with two doubles, 22 RBIs, 10 base on balls, six stolen bases, and 27 runs scored in 2015. Davidson batted .291 with 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored in his first season of Legion ball in 2014.

Davidson also pitched for his Legion team. He had a 6-5 record with two saves and a 2.60 earned run average and struck out 61 batters in 57 innings this past summer.

Davidson will join a Morningside team that posted a 44-16 record in the 2016 campaign to set a school record for victories in a season. Morningside finished third in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) regular season standings with a 13-7 record before it won the GPAC Post-Season Tournament championship to advance to the NAIA Baseball Championship Opening Round for its first national tournament appearance since the 1960 NAIA World Series.
