Morningside is in fourth place in the current 2013-14 NAIA Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings.

Morningside College is in fourth place in the 2013-14 NAIA Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings with 453.5 total points after the conclusion of the fall and winter sports seasons. Points are awarded based on a team’s finish at the NAIA National Championship events.

The Mustangs finished fifth in women’s basketball, ninth in wrestling, 13th in women’s swimming, 14th in men’s swimming, 17th in men’s basketball, and 20th in women’s indoor track & field during the winter sports season.

Morningside finished third in football and 12th in men’s cross country during the fall.

Morningside leads all teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). The only other team from the GPAC in the top 25 is Hastings College in 17th place with 338 points. 

Oklahoma Baptist University leads the current 2013-14 NAIA Learfield Sports Director’s Cup standings with 598 points. Olivet Nazarene University is second with 574.5 points, followed by Lindsey Wilson College with 470.5 points and Morningside with 453.5.
The rest of the top 10 is comprised of Concordia University (Calif.) with 445.5, Wayland Baptist University with 440, University of the Cumberlands with 422.5, College of Idaho with 419, Biola University with 394.5, and Grand View University with 381.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 12 sports – six women’s and six men’s.
