Morningside’s softball team is ranked 15th in the 2018 NAIA Softball Preseason Poll following a 2017 campaign where the Mustangs finished 40-12.

Morningside is ranked 15th in the nation in the 2018 NAIA Softball Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll released on January 16.

The Mustangs come off a banner 2017 campaign where they posted a 40-12 record and won the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) championship with a 17-3 league mark for a three-game victory margin over runner-ups Hastings College and Concordia University (14-6). The Mustangs competed in the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round Sioux City Bracket for their eighth national tournament appearance in the last nine years.

The Mustangs return three starters and their No. 2 pitcher from last year and will open the 2018 season at the Cowtown Classic on Feb. 9 and 10 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Morningside is the only team from the GPAC ranked in the NAIA Preseason Top 25.
