(Sioux City, Iowa)- The Morningside Women’s Golf Team won the Morningside Invitational Thursday night by 10 strokes.

The field contained eight schools, five of which represented the GPAC.  The Mustangs shot a team score of 321, which was good enough for (+37). The runner-up went to Bellevue University who shot a 331 and Northwestern College rounded out the top three, shooting a 334. This is Morningside’s second straight team win as they won the Mount Marty Invite to open the season on Aug. 30.

            Individually, Morningside had five golfers place in the top 10 overall. Maria Zorrilla, a Sophomore from Torreon, Mexico, placed second overall by shooting a 77 (+6). Zorrilla won the Mount Marty Invite outright to open the season. Freshman Maria Nava finished third by shooting a 78. While Freshman Laia Badosa and Senior Alex Mankle finished the round tied for sixth when both girls shot an 81. Finally, wrapping up the top 10 finishes for the Mustangs, Sophomore Sam Knight finished her round tied for ninth shooting an 82.

            The Women’s Golf Team will be back in action Sept. 14 and 15 when they head to the Two Rivers Golf Course for the Briar Cliff Invitational in North Sioux City, S.D. Good luck to our Mustang golfers!
