Morningside finished third in the women’s standings at the Palace City Classic golf tournament.

Morningside finished third in a six-team field at the Dakota Wesleyan Palace City Classic women’s golf tournament held Friday and Saturday in Mitchell, S.D.

The Mustangs had a team score of 341 each day to finish with a 682 to leave them 19 shots behind Jamestown (663) for second place.

Reigning GPAC champion Dakota Wesleyan was a runaway winner with a 639.

Callie Anderson led the Mustangs with a 164 to finish eighth in the individual standings. Anderson had Morningside’s top first round score with a 79 for the best score of her collegiate career.
Jeicy Rivas Plata led the Mustangs with an 81 on Saturday and finished with a two-day total of 171 for 14th place. Caitlin Fieselman finished 13th with a 170 and Nathalie Sanchez was 15th with a 177.

Fieselman had an 83 in Friday’s first round for the low score of her Morningside career.

The Mustangs will compete in GPAC Qualifier #1 on Monday in Sioux Center, Iowa.
