Morningside hosted perennial GPAC women’s soccer title contender, Concordia University, on Sept. 26, for a 5:30 p.m. match at Elwood Olsen Stadium.  The Bulldogs came out on top, 3-2, in double overtime.

The Mustangs came out charging and took an early lead in the matchup thanks to a Merle Bublitz penalty kick in minute 22.  Concordia wouldn’t let the deficit stand for long, scoring the equalizer before going into the halftime break.

In the second half, Morningside attacked again, putting together a run down the side of the field, capped in the minute 64 by a Paytn Harmon goal off of an assist by Bublitz.  Concordia responded quickly with a goal coming off of a free kick four minutes later.

A back and forth first overtime period found both teams still knotted up at two goals each.  Concordia would break the tie with two minutes remaining in the second overtime period.

The Mustangs put together 12 shots in the game and had one assist.  Senior goalkeeper Tristan Beaulieu had eight saves in the extended match.

Morningside is back in action on the road on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m. at cross-town rival Briar Cliff.
