Morningside’s women’s tennis season ended with a 5-4 loss against Northwestern in the GPAC Tournament semifinals.

Northwestern avenged a 5-4 loss during the regular season when it turned the tables on Morningside with a 5-4 triumph in Friday’s semifinals of the GPAC Women’s Tennis Tournament in Fremont, Neb.

The defending champion Mustangs finished the season with a record of 13-5.

The Red Raiders opened a 2-1 lead after the completion of doubles play. The Mustangs’ doubles victory came in the third flight, where Megan Carlson and Natasha Hongsermeier combined for an 8-2 triumph.

The teams split the six singles matches. The Mustangs’ most convincing singles winner was Megan Solberg, who shut her opponent out with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph in the sixth flight.

Morningside’s other singles victories came in the second flight with a 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-4 triumph from Audri Swisher and the fifth flight with a 6-1, 6-2 victory by Megan Carlson.
