Morningside University Secures Over $947,500 in Grants to Enhance Education and Community Programs

Sioux City, Iowa—Morningside University is proud to announce the receipt of several prestigious grants totaling over $947,500. These funds will support a variety of initiatives aimed at advancing student education, enhancing campus resources, and fostering community engagement.
National Science Foundation (NSF) Grant: $750,000
Morningside University has been awarded a Level 2 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE) program. This funding builds upon the success of a previous Level 1 grant ($300,000, January 2021–December 2023), which supported the creation of a multi-semester, project-based learning program for incoming Biology and Chemistry freshmen.
The initial program focused on accelerating the development of research skills and fostering positive attitudes toward science, including identity, agency, motivation, and self-efficacy. The program’s success has led to this Level 2 grant, which will allow Morningside to expand and enhance the initiative. Currently in the planning phase, the program will begin accepting students in Fall 2026.
Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust Grant: $170,000
This grant will be used to purchase state-of-the-art equipment to enhance the education of health science students, including those in Nursing, Pre-Health, and Exercise Science programs. Key acquisitions include:
These tools will provide Morningside students with cutting-edge training and expertise as they prepare for careers in health sciences.
Margaret Ann Martin Everist Foundation Grant: $25,000
This funding will support the development and implementation of community-based performing arts events, including the beloved “Christmas at Morningside” and High School Honor events. These programs enrich the cultural fabric of the community and provide opportunities for artistic expression and collaboration.
United Airlines Trust Fund Grant: $2,500
This grant will fund the purchase of equipment to support the Stop the Bleed program, which trains campus community members to provide immediate aid to accident or emergency victims suffering from excessive bleeding. This initiative underscores Morningside’s commitment to campus safety and preparedness.
“These grants represent a significant investment in the future of Morningside University and our students,” said Interim President Chad Benson. “We are grateful to our funding partners for their support, which will allow us to enhance educational opportunities, improve campus resources, and strengthen our connection to the community.”
