Sioux City, IA – Morningside University is proud to announce Dr. Paul von Kampen as the 9th Conductor of The Morningside Choir and Director of Choral Activities. As The Morningside Choir enters its next chapter after more than a century of choral excellence, we are honored to welcome Dr. von Kampen, whose inspiring artistry, visionary leadership, and passion for music education will lead one of our most treasured traditions into an exciting new era.

Most recently serving as the fourth Conductor and Director of Choral Activities at Concordia University, St. Paul, Minnesota, Dr. von Kampen has earned national recognition for cultivating ensembles of exceptional musical excellence. Under his leadership, choirs have been invited to perform at state and regional conferences and have toured throughout the region and internationally. His commitment to building vibrant choral communities, paired with his dedication to artistic and academic excellence, has inspired generations of singers and audiences alike.

A respected scholar and frequent contributor to Choral Journal, Dr. von Kampen is recognized for his expertise in Latvian choral music and accessible choral repertoire. His distinguished career is deeply rooted in K–12 music education, where he developed a student-centered approach that places meaningful music-making and artistic growth at the heart of every rehearsal and classroom experience.

In addition to his collegiate leadership, Dr. von Kampen is a highly sought-after guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator, sharing his expertise with honor choirs and choral festivals across the country. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Nebraska, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Oakland University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska.
