Morningside will host the 2018 NAIA Competitive Cheer & Dance Northwest Group Qualifier Tournament.

Morningside was selected by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) to host the 2018 NAIA Competitive Cheer & Dance Northwest Group Qualifier Tournament.

The event will be held in the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center/Allee Gymnasium on Friday, Feb. 23.

Morningside’s competitive cheer & dance teams will compete against teams from Briar Cliff University, College of Saint Mary, Concordia University, Doane University, Dordt College, Hastings College, University of Jamestown, Midland University, Northwestern College, Point Park University and Waldorf University for the right to advance to the 2018 NAIA Competitive Cheer & Dance National Championships.

Morningside is one of four sites from across the nation selected to host a group qualifier tournament. Siena Heights University in Adrian, Minn., will host the Northeast Qualifier, Lindenwood University-Belleville in Belleville, Ill., will host the Southwest Qualifier and Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan., will host the Southeast Qualifier.

The highest scoring team from each group tournament, along with the eight teams with the highest qualifier event scores that did not receive an automatic bid, will advance to the 2018 NAIA Competitive Cheer & Dance National Championships to be held March 9-10 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
