Morningside professor co-edits “Working en communidad” book
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Dr. Stacey Alex, Morningside University assistant professor of Spanish, has co-edited the recently released book, “Working en comunidad: Service-Learning and Community Engagement with U.S. Latinas/os/es.”
The book addresses three major themes: Ethical approaches to working with Latina/o/e communities, preparing students to work with their own communities and different environments, and ensuring equitable practices and building relationships that are mutually beneficial for students and community members.
Dr. Alex wrote the introduction and a chapter about how she and her students support Spanish-speaking families at the Sioux City Public Museum’s Day of the Dead events. She also helped edit the chapters throughout the book.

Dr. Alex specializes in Latina/o/e literature and popular culture. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Spanish literature at the University of Iowa, then completed her PhD in Latin American Literary and Cultural Studies at The Ohio State University.
