Morningside’s men’s volleyball team won its varsity debut with a 3-1 victory against Culver-Stockton.

Morningside’s men’s volleyball team made a successful varsity debut with a 25-23, 25-27, 25-19, 25-22 victory against Culver-Stockton on Saturday in the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center.

Jeffrey Taylor led the Mustangs’ attack with 14 kills, while Braden Hall and Raul Rivera Rojas each had 12 kills.

Taylor and Culver-Stockton’s Steve Battaglia shared match honors with 14 kills.

The Mustangs’ Jordan Bailey led all performers with 42 assists.

Dalton Tucker led the Mustangs’ court coverage with 10 digs, followed by Taylor with eight and Rivera Rojas with seven.
Tucker had three ace serves to match Culver-Stockton’s entire team total.

The Mustangs’ opening match triumph came against a Culver-Stockton team that had a 4-25 record last season.
Morningside’s next match will be against one of the top teams in the nation on Wednesday, Jan. 14, in Des Moines, Iowa, when it faces a Grand View team that is ranked second in the NAIA.
