Morningside College was honored recently at the ODK honor society’s national convention at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. A Morningside student was named one of five national student leaders of the year, the local organization received recognition and the faculty adviser was selected for national leadership positions.

Nick Brincks of Carroll, Iowa, graduating president of the Morningside organization, was named the national student leader of the year in the area of journalism, speech and media. He received a $1,000 scholarship and a $300 grant for the local organization.

The Morningside College circle was one of only eight local organizations to be recognized with a National Superior Circle Award, and students Hannah Hecht of Lansing, Kan.; Drew Nolan of Hawarden, Iowa; and Sarah Swan of South Sioux City, Neb., received second place in the Circle Showcase, where selected ODK circles prepare table displays about their circle’s programs and activities. Those three students also led a breakout session during the convention with Dr. Bruce Forbes, their faculty adviser.

Forbes was selected to chair ODK’s national advisory council and to serve as a member of the national board of directors for the next two years. He also led the resolutions committee as part of the business of the national convention.

ODK is a national leadership honor society that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership and exemplary character.
