The Morningside College Department of Performing Arts will present the musical “Next to Normal” at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 through 6 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 7 in Klinger-Neal Theatre, 3700 Peters Ave.

The Morningside College Department of Performing Arts will present the musical “Next to Normal” at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 through 6 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 7 in Klinger-Neal Theatre, 3700 Peters Ave.

“Next to Normal” features an energetic pop/rock score and explores how a suburban family copes with crisis and mental illness. The original Broadway production won three Tony Awards in 2009 and the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 2010.

Taylor Clemens, assistant professor of theatre, is directing the Morningside College production. Dr. Suzanne Hendrix-Case, assistant professor of music, serves as musical director.  

Morningside student cast members include Joey Volquartsen, a senior from Stanton, Iowa; Engels Perez, a junior from Bogota, Colombia; Amy Jackson, a senior from Cape Coral, Fla.; Eric Wells, a sophomore from Mineola, Iowa; Travis Metzger, a senior from Garretson, S.D.; and Madison Schueth, a junior from Fremont, Neb.

Annalee Dorsey, a junior from Kansas City, Kan., is stage manager for the production.

Tickets are $10 at the door. The production is for a mature audience.
