Morningside College will confer approximately 340 Master of Arts in Teaching degrees and 21 Master of Science in Nursing degrees at its graduate commencement ceremony June 9 at 2 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium.

Stowick

Morningside also will award an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree to Dr. Kathleen Buchheit Stowick of Mount Prospect, Ill., retired professor of nursing and former chair of the Morningside College Nursing Education Department. The honorary degree recognizes Stowick for her many years of service and leadership in nursing education at Morningside.    

Emily Elsbernd, an eighth grade teacher at Calmar, Festina, Spillville Catholic School in Spillville, Iowa, will receive the Tevis Award. The award recognizes the outstanding research efforts of a Morningside graduate education student.

Annette Benedict, an elementary special education teacher with the Storm Lake, Iowa, Community School District, will receive the Owens Master’s Award for Professional Service. The award recognizes a Morningside graduate education student who demonstrates exemplary professional service and leadership within their school, organization or community.
