Morningside College will present an honorary degree to Morningside College Provost William Deeds during its spring commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. May 11 on the campus lawn in front of the Hickman-Johnson-Furrow Learning Center.

Morningside College will present an honorary degree to Morningside College Provost William Deeds during its spring commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. May 11 on the campus lawn in front of the Hickman-Johnson-Furrow Learning Center.

Deeds, who has served as the college’s chief academic officer for nearly 20 years, also will be the featured speaker for commencement. Morningside College will award more than 260 undergraduate degrees during the ceremony.

Deeds is receiving an honorary degree in recognition of his many years of service at Morningside College and his 40-year career in higher education. Deeds came to Morningside in 2000 as vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. Previously, he had served as dean for academic affairs at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. Deeds is retiring at the end of May.

Baccalaureate service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. May 11 in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave. The Rev. Jim Shirbroun from Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City will deliver the baccalaureate sermon.

Baccalaureate and commencement ceremonies are open to the public.
