Morningside College’s student radio station, KMSC Fusion 93, received a Golden Microphone Award at the 75th Annual International Intercollegiate Broadcasting Systems (IBS) Conference held recently in New York City.

Morningside College’s student radio station, KMSC Fusion 93, received a Golden Microphone Award at the 75th Annual International Intercollegiate Broadcasting Systems (IBS) Conference held recently in New York City.

The award was presented in the “Best Public Affairs Program” category and recognized KMSC’s 2014 election night coverage, which involved more than 50 mass communication and political science students as well as members of the Morningside Civic Union. KMSC was competing with seven other finalists in the public affairs program category.

KMSC staff members Channing Pick and Jenni Theisen, both from Le Mars, Iowa, attended the conference and accepted the award. This is the third year in a row that KMSC has received a Golden Microphone Award at the IBS conference. KMSC entries were finalists in two other categories – “Best Sports Play‐By‐Play (Basketball)” and “Best Public Service Promotion.”

IBS is an organization consisting of over 1,000 non-profit, education-affiliated radio stations. It honors excellence in programming, air personalities, public service efforts and outstanding stations with the annual awards. IBS is a member of the National Association of Broadcasters.
