Chad Bertagni, a Morningside College junior biology and chemistry major from Omaha, Neb., is co-author of an article recently published in Biophysical Journal.

The article is the result of Alzheimer’s research conducted by the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha. Bertagni was selected in the summer of 2014 to participate in an undergraduate research program in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UNMC.

The research focuses on specific proteins in the brain that are misfolded in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. The work at UNMC uses a new approach to understanding how the misfolded proteins interact with each other and with other brain proteins.

Biophysical Journal publishes original articles on developments in modern biophysics, emphasizing the molecular and cellular aspects of biology.
